Absolut Generations
Andy Warhol first took on the vodka bottle in the late 80s creating his vibrant, iconic image Absolut Warhol. Fast forward two decades, and Not Actual Size took his lead to launch the ground-breaking Absolut Generations project at the 50th Venice Biennale – the first ever showing by a commercial brand – to re-energize the company’s bond with art.
With a nod to Warhol’s mentoring of artists such as Keith Haring, we asked 13 of the best European artists to nominate a partner they would collaborate with on the bottle. Highlights? A gondola in a 15-metre long inflatable ship-in-a-bottle and a video installation of a vodka-drinking monkey that gradually metamorphoses into Charles Darwin. The project was serialized in Time Magazine over a 12 week period and generated widespread media around Europe.
