In a bid to encourage young people to make ads inspired by its tortilla chips, the brand asked us to recruit entrants: welcome to Free Play – a user guide designed to show how people can make ads that ‘don’t cost a packet’ – and a magnet for thousands of visitors to the Doritos website. Working with the influential illustrator, Mr Bingo, Not Actual Size created mini-tutorials on zero budget film making such as how to make a big bucks dubbing studio from a cardboard box, build your own green screen for top notch SFX, and master the tracking shot using just a plank of wood.
The guide was given to students as assignments on creative media courses at universities throughout the UK.
